Bloomberg Línea — Colombia was struck by a 6.1-Richter earthquake on Thursday at 12:04 local time, according to the country’s geological service.
The service had initially reported the magnitude of the tremor to be 5.9 on the Richter scale.
Another, 5.6.-magnitude quake, was reported at 12:17 local time.
The epicenter was Calvario, in the country’s central Meta department.
In Bogotá, the quakes were strongly felt and universities and office buildings across the city were evacuated. No injuries were reported, according to the city’s fire department.
“We will continue to monitor the situation,” the fire department said in a tweet.
Bogotá's mayor Claudia López stated: “So far we only have reports of people trapped in elevators and other minor events. Nothing serious. @BomberosBogota attending the reported sites. Calm and serenity. Remain cautious because aftershocks may continue to occur”.
